Ah Casares! One of the most beautiful villages in the Coast del Sol. It's a bright white village of Arab origin, which because of its sites of interest, has been designated as a Historical-Artistic Site. The problem is, if you're living and working is Casares, you don't want your broadband to be of equally historical interest. You need the best 4G internet Casares can offer. So where can you get that?
Casares is nestled quietly between Costa del Sol, Serranía de Ronda and Campo de Gibraltar. It is a beautiful place, renowned for its quaint streets, the remains of the Medieval castle and because it is the well-known birthplace of Blas Infante. Visitors love the coastline that stretches out for 2km, as well as the fine golf courses and a sensational natural environment.
If you're visiting or staying in Casares there is no way of avoiding the castle. This Arab fortress towers above the town, the remains standing as they do on a limestone massif, looking out at the valleys, hills and meadows beyond. Also worth a visit is the Church of La Encarnación, a convent church in Llano de la Fuente with a single nave, a belfry tower with Mudejar features and a sweet garden surrounded by small fountains. If you like fountains you'll enjoy a visit to the Carlos III Fountain – a Neoclassical fountain from the eighteenth century, designed to carry the water from the springs in Puerto de las Viñas to the town centre. Another fountain, La Arquita, is part of the same project.
More watery excursions can be had at La Hedionda Baths – which are actually sulphur springs, which were used by the Romans and the Arabs. Plus, across the Albarrán stream, there is a bridge cum aqueduct that was built in the sixteenth century and was rehabilitated two centuries later.
The Blas Infante's House-Museum is open to visitors too. Blas Infante, also known as the ‘Father of Andalusia' was born in Casares, so his house now displays a collection of objects that illustrate his life and works.
Don't forget the Shrine of San Sebastián of course. It dates from the seventeenth century, and is the location of an image of Our Lady of the Rosary of the Field, the Patroness of Casares. Every May, the image is taken on a procession to her shrine, where the rivers Genal and Guadiaro meet.
